A monkey played hide and seek with Agriculture and Fisheries Department officers for nearly three hours yesterday before disappearing up a hill off Lyttleton Road, Mid-Levels.

The officers were called to the junction of Third and Western streets at about 2.10 pm after the monkey was seen sitting on the roof of a public toilet.

When they arrived, the animal ran off in the direction of High Street near its junction with Bonham Road and disappeared.

It later reappeared briefly in Centre Street but officers then lost sight of it near Western Police Station.

About three hours later members of the team were called to Oaklands Road in Central after receiving another report that the monkey had been sighted again.
