Arthur Li Kai-yien went a small way towards making up for Tuesday's relay heartbreak yesterday with a win in the B-final in his specialist 100 metres freestyle event. Li, pipped for bronze at the last in the 4 ? 200 metres relay on the previous evening, made no mistake in the 100-metre final and touched home in 52.64 seconds. Zac Moffatt finished the race in eighth position in a time of 54.45. Moffatt had earlier finished his heat in sixth place with a time of 54.39. The best performance of the day came from youngster Alex Fong Lik-sun, who won through to the final of the 200m backstroke after setting a national record in the heats. Fong finished his heat third in 2:07.75, but was unable to make any sort of a challenge in the final, trailing home in seventh position. In general, Hong Kong's women struggled in the 400m freestyle heats. Pang Shuk-mui came last in her heat, a full 30 seconds behind winner Chen Hua. However, she did clock a personal best of 4:48.12. Robyn Lamsam withdrew from the event. In the 4 ? 100 metres freestyle relay final, Hong Kong's quartet of Pang, Tung Xue-ming, Sherry Tsai Hiu-wai and Caroline Chiu finished seventh in 4:06.29. Out of the pool, Hong Kong continued to find it heavy going in the judo competition, with Lai Wai-shan losing both her bouts in the 57-63 kilograms category.
