A special guide has been developed to enable teachers to help maladjusted children more effectively. The Guide to Curriculum for Maladjusted Children is produced by the Special Education Co-ordinating Committee under the Curriculum Development Council. It aims to provide schools admitting maladjusted children with a curriculum framework for social development. The guide is to alert teachers to the learning difficulties and needs of the children and help design appropriate curriculum materials to meet those needs. The guide is also useful for mainstream primary and secondary school and other special school teachers. It gives them a better understanding of teaching strategies used in schools for social development. The guide has a description of the definitions, characteristics, inducing factors and aims of education for maladjusted children. A balance of development in the academic, personal and social aspects of these children is recommended. There is also a section on student assessment. Two sets of the guide have been sent to all primary and secondary schools. To promote better understanding of the guide, a series of seminars will be organised early next year to brief teachers on the reasons for the development of the guide.
