LACK of money has prevented the Transport Department from expanding its licensing office and keeping pledges to provide a speedy service for motorists. Assistant Commissioner for Transport, Mr Ernest Lee Shu-wing, said yesterday he would make a further plea for funds. Legislators last week refused a department request for more money to upgrade its office on Hongkong Island. Mr Lee yesterday showed Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) members around the existing offices in Murray Road, which can handle up to 500 visitors a day. He told them an extra 1,550 square metres of space was needed to set up enough service counters to reduce waiting time for driving licence application and renewal.
