It is the Education Department of Hong Kong that is most in need of education.
I have returned from the United States with a lot of questions about our education system.
Why don't our schools and textbooks provide the practical and essential knowledge that we so desperately need? In the US I saw lessons about recycling of waste and the depletion of the ozone layer in the classrooms of primary schools and even in kindergartens.
Children learn about environmental protection and their own roles and responsibilities when they are still small. They will get more such knowledge from their further education.
What about us? The world is changing fast, but not the content of our classroom lessons or textbooks in Hong Kong.
This and future generations need to have up-to-date information, so that we can better understand the modern world, to help us make the world a better place.
