The disabled in Tuen Mun cannot visit the buildings in the town centre, because of the design of the flyovers.
All the flyovers connecting the buildings and the Light Rail Transit town centre station are linked to the platforms by staircases only.
This is a hindrance to the disabled, especially to wheelchair users.
To visit the town centre, inevitably, they have to get off the LRT one station before or after and then walk or use their wheelchairs for at least 200 metres.
The LRT vehicles in Tuen Mun should be able to serve the needs of disabled people. They should make the town centre accessible. Yet, their design renders them inaccessible to the disabled.
The KMB route 60M, which operates between Tuen Mun Town Centre and Tsuen Wan MTR Station, is the only bus in Tuen Mun that visits the urban area and has low-floor buses, which are designed so the disabled can board them. However, the terminus of the 60M in the town centre of Tuen Mun can only be reached by using the flyovers and the disabled cannot use these flyovers.
