I refer to Jacqueline Hodkinson's letter concerning the removal of the trees from the University of Hong Kong's building site in Sassoon Road (South China Morning Post, December 9).

I, too, think it is disgraceful that contractors acting on behalf of the university can destroy the environment in this way.
No doubt they will be covering the bank with concrete in the near future in the interests of slope safety, and if we are really lucky they might even colour it brown.
Is it too much to ask that they spare the sole remaining tree? SUSAN TULLY, Pokfulam
