East Tamar may prove to be a new location for Christmas light-gazers this festive season. Police said yesterday large crowds were possible at Tamar where the festive lights of Tsim Sha Tsui East can be seen and an exhibition will take place over the holidays. Roads between Edinburgh Place and the Academy for Performing Arts could be closed on December 24 to 26 and for New Year's Eve if crowds swell, said Superintendent John Phillips, head of the Hong Kong Island Traffic Enforcement and Control Division. Lung Wui Road, Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue opened in July and provide access to the harbour front. 'The Tamar site is available for the first time and we will need to deploy officers there and keep an eye on it as it may be a difficult one to assess,' Mr Phillips said. The usual hotbeds for festive crowds - Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, Causeway Bay and Lan Kwai Fong - will see the usual increased police presence and road closures.
