More express buses will ease traffic congestion on roads along the north of Hong Kong Island, New World First Bus said yesterday. The company, which took over the China Motor Bus franchise in September, said the route network had been underdeveloped for the past decade. Operations director Mark Savelli said: 'There is great scope to further improve services, particularly on the existing 88 [former CMB] routes and modifications and extension of those routes. 'And routes currently peak-hour only will become all-day services, such as route 720 and 722.' Both are express routes from the eastern side of the island to Central via the Island Eastern Corridor - proposals which would ease congested traffic black spots such as King's Road, Mr Savelli said. At the same time, First Bus will cut other services with route 20 between Shau Kei Wan and Central becoming the first casualty of the revamp due to be implemented by Easter. First Bus Christmas promotional placards have disappeared mysteriously from bus stops. About 20 of the 300 Santa Claus placards, which were meant to be firmly attached to the upper section of the bus stop poles, have been reported missing from various locations across Hong Kong Island.
