The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) will freeze salaries next year in line with other securities regulators, chairman Andrew Sheng said yesterday. The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, Hongkong Clearing and Hong Kong Futures Exchange have all said they will freeze pay rises next year due to the economic downturn. Mr Sheng said the commission had decided it would not increase salaries for its staff in the financial year from April. The commission usually adjusts salaries from April 1. Lower stock market turnover has affected the SFC's vital transaction-levy income.
