Seize right to vote, teens told

Hong Kong permanent residents who are 18, or will be by the end of March, are being asked to register as electors so they can vote in the District Council elections at the end of next year.

Electoral Affairs Commission chairman Mr Justice Woo Kwok-hing made a special appeal to the younger generation.

'Seize the opportunity now and treasure your voting right.

'The registration procedure is simple. It takes you only a couple of minutes to fill out a form,' he said.

At present, 2.795 million electors have signed up on the electoral roll, a registration rate of about 70 per cent.

Temporary registration counters will be set up at 25 tertiary institutions, youth centres and other popular places.
