The toy of the year caused a bidding storm on the Operation Santa Claus online auction hosted again by The Web Connection. Last-minute offers piled in for 12 Furbies donated to the appeal by Tiger Toys and for the Dolphinwatch trip to see the endangered pink dolphins. When the auction finally closed, each Furby had attracted a bid of more than $1,000. The keenest bidder was Eddie Woo whose offers secured him three of the lovable electronic pets which speak 'Furbish'. Nicola Ho and Hemesh Kapadia each won two Furbies. The other Furbies were shared by five winners, including Dr Gordon Wong who may well use it to cheer up young patients. In total, the auction this year raised $14,600 as well as providing background on the annual campaign by the South China Morning Post and RTHK and this year's beneficiary, the Ing Mei Orphanage Fund.
