A TAXI driver who robbed and indecently assaulted a woman passenger has been jailed for 71/2 years by the High Court. Deputy Judge Yeung told Wong Kwok-wai, 32, it was a serious offence. However, he took into account Wong's guilty plea and sentenced him to six years for the robbery and 18 months for the indecent assault. The offence took place at 2.30 am on October 30 last year when the 21-year-old victim boarded the taxi and asked to be taken to her home in Wong Chuk Hang Estate, Aberdeen. The defendant took a ''wrong'' turn and drove at high speed to a deserted area where he stopped and tied the victim's hands and fondled her breasts. He then stole her necklace. The victim reported the incident to the police after she got home. The defendant is serving a three-year sentence for a bank robbery. The new sentences were ordered to run consecutively.
