Urinals, sinks and tiles coated with anti-bacterial chemicals will be installed in three public toilet blocks early next year.

The Provisional Regional Council said yesterday that use of the Japanese-made products had been shown to cut bacteria growth by 80 per cent and reduce smells.

The surfaces of urinals, floor tiles, wash basins and toilet bowls had been treated with silver ions, and the products would replace regular ceramics in blocks at Tai Po Market KCR station, Cheung Ching bus terminus in Tsing Yi and in Kin Lung Street, Tuen Mun. Installation would begin in April.
