DETROIT (January 3): A SURVEY of 15,000 executives by an employment agency showed today that fat bosses receive lesser pay than lean ones.

'By exploiting the overweight, too many American companies are literally living off the fat of the land,' said Mr Robert Half, President of a New York-based company that specialises in finding jobs for financial and computer executives.

'Some fat people pay a penalty of U.S.$1,000 a lb,' he said.

The survey, he said, also showed that fat people are less likely to advance as quickly or as high as lean people. Mr Half conducted the survey by asking his branch offices in 15 cities to pick 1,000 of the company's clients at random and check their height, weight and salaries.

The results were than checked against insurance industry charts. People who weighed 10 per cent more than the chart figures were considered overweight.

Of 1,500 executives who earned between U.S.$25,000 and U.S.$45,000 a year, the survey showed, only nine per cent were more than 10 lbs overweight.
