Hong Kong is being buffeted by the fierce winds of recession. It is being adversely affected by the economic downturn in the region.
Because of this, an increasing number of people are finding themselves unemployed. Many of those who have been able to keep their jobs have had to accept wage cuts.
This has meant that families have tightened their belts and they may not have enough to give to their elderly parents.
A large number of old people in Hong Kong are left alone to fend for themselves, abandoned by their sons and daughters.
They have so little money that they cannot afford to buy nourishing meals and have to make do with instant noodles. These old people spent their adult lives working hard for Hong Kong.
They deserve a bit of comfort in retirement. I hope the Government can do more to help them.
