An accountant has been jailed for swindling almost $4 million out of a company owned by a daughter of Macau casino magnate Stanley Ho Hung-sun.
District Court Judge Fergal Sweeney jailed Ng King-wai, 37, for three years and nine months. Ng yesterday pleaded guilty to 13 charges of theft between March and May 1994.
Prosecutor Prakash Daryanani said Ng pocketed $3.9 million by altering the account number on pre-signed cheques.
Judge Sweeney said Ng had abused the trust placed in him by his employer.
'It is the old Hong Kong court story of greed overcoming serious restraint,' Judge Sweeney said.
'The only negligence is placing too much trust on the defendant.' In mitigation, barrister Albert Poon Ying-yin said Ng had worked as a supervisor in the Grand Hyatt Hotel from 1988 to 1992 and had organised a wedding banquet there for Pansy Ho Chiu-king.
