A couple were forced to find shelter for 40 dogs after being evicted from a village house in Lau Fau Shan yesterday. Ma Shik-ling, 39, and her husband were ordered to move from their three-storey house in Sha Kong Wai having failed to pay a $9,000 monthly rental bill for about two years. The couple occupied the ground and second-floor units. More than 30 dogs were in the front yard and more were found inside. Yesterday, house owner Wong On-sau, 54, and a bailiff arrived to regain control of the house but Ms Ma refused to open the door. Police and firefighters were called when Ms Ma threatened to cause an explosion using liquefied petroleum gas. After an hour-long standoff, the woman agreed to move out after she was given 10 days to move all her dogs. A spokesman for the Agriculture and Fisheries Department said they would check whether the couple had a licence to keep the dogs.
