In an attempt to improve school management and education quality, more than 20 academics, principals and Board of Education members attended a four-day conference in San Antonio, the United States.
The conference was an annual meeting of the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI).
The theme was 'Lifting the profession: teachers and schools for the new millennium'. It was attended by policy-makers and educators from around the world.
The Hong Kong Board of Education delegation was led by chairman Moses Cheng Mo- chi. Director of Education Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fan was invited to speak at the conference. Her speech was titled 'In Pursuit of Excellence: Challenges and Changes for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region'.
The conference gave the Hong Kong participants a chance to strengthen ties with overseas experts in education, exchange views and stay ahead of developments in school reforms overseas.
It included presentations, symposiums, workshops, round-table discussions and visits to schools in San Antonio to examine the latest initiatives in school effectiveness and school improvement.
