COLLIERS Jardine (Hongkong) was the toast of the town last night as the property consultancy celebrated its 10th birthday. The group began operations in 1983 with a staff of just 80 under the name of Chi Wo and, many name changes later, boasts a workforce of 1,237, including on-site property management personnel. It is now one of the largest consultancies in Hongkong, with 25 affiliated offices around the region. Mrs Karen Wong, Colliers Jardine joint managing director, has been with the company since its start as an equal joint venture between Hongkong Land and Jardine Matheson. Hongkong Land later pulled out and a number of associations followed until two years ago, when the group took its present form. Today, Colliers Jardine is a 50-50 joint venture between Jardine Matheson and Colliers International (Australia). Last year, Colliers Jardine's Asia-Pacific regional activity included cross-border sales worth nearly US$950 million, leasing of 87,000 sq metres of development space and valuation of more than US$14.2 billion worth of real estate. The company's property management arm has more than 5.7 million sq metres of residential and commercial property on its books, including large projects in China. Last year, Colliers Jardine formed a joint-venture company with China International Trust and Investment Corp to concentrate on this area.
