HANAGUSHI YAKITORI 1/F, Ho Lee Commercial Building 17-22 Lan Kwai Fong Central Tel: 2521-0868 Open: Monday-Saturday 10am-3pm, 6pm-11.30pm, closed Sunday Despite its name, this place does not serve only yakitori. It offers such a comprehensive menu that it is difficult to decide what to order.

As well as the yakitori (grilled skewers of meat, vegetables and seafood) the menu also features sushi and sashimi, noodles, snacks, grilled dishes and tempura. And to accompany the food, there is an extensive drinks list.

To make it easy for guests, there are a few set meals, but they do not seem like really good deals. Besides, it is always more interesting to fully explore what the kitchen has to offer.

You may want to order something to nibble on to stave off hunger pangs while perusing the menu. Yakitori is a good choice, although some of the skewers take a long time to cook.

Quail eggs are wonderful: perfectly boiled (none of that ugly green sulphur-tasting ring around the yolk) before being popped on the grill to pick up a deep smoky taste.

Gingko nuts are chewy and flavourful, while the crisp chicken skin only needs a bit more salt.

Uni handrolls are delicious, but the last and most important bite does not have any of the rich, wonderful sea urchin roe.
