Academic achievements are not enough. Students must have initiative and social and organisational skills, secondary school graduates were told.
Speaking at Queen Elizabeth School's speech day, guest-of-honour Chong Kok-shan said that as a result of the changing global economic situation, graduates would have to compete with their counterparts in different parts of the world.
Students should not only join extra-curricular activities, they should take an active role to organise and co-ordinate them, he said.
As Hong Kong is an international city with advanced information technology, students have a perfect environment in which to acquire useful skills and knowledge, said Mr Chong, who graduated from the school in 1967.
Delivering his report, principal Yeung Chi-hung said he was impressed by the students' results in public examinations, their active participation in extra-curricular activities and outstanding performance in competitions outside school.
One of the school's top students was Law Ka-ho (S5D), who got 10 A1 s in last year's HKCEE.
