A FORMER department head of the Chinese University will appear in Sha Tin Court tomorrow charged with obtaining a total of $14,400 from a teaching assistant by deception.

Chan Wai-leung, 52, former chairman of the Department of Mathematics, allegedly claimed the money would be given to a postgraduate student from mainland China who would share the assistant's workload.
