Yahoo! has launched a portal site (www.yahoo.com.hk) for Hong Kong, offering English and Chinese-language versions. It also plans to launch a site for Singapore this month.

 The Hong Kong site adds to Yahoo!'s three existing Asian portals, all in local Asian languages: Yahoo! Chinese, Yahoo! Korea, Yahoo! Japan.

 Its regional portal Yahoo! in Asia is housed in Singapore and simply mirrors the main United States Web site's content for faster Asian access.

 The new sites would be supported by Web advertising, Yahoo! said.

  'We are serious about Asia. We have spent a lot of money to set up these sites with a lot of local content,' Internet World quoted Yahoo! Hong Kong managing director Savio Chow as saying.

 Mr Chow previously was general manager for North Asia for Netscape Communications, which closed its North Asia office in November before its merger with America Online.
