Towngas checks near end

Towngas will finish inspecting all potentially deadly water heaters in 15,800 households by Monday.

The company sent 200 employees to 3,000 households in 19 estates yesterday, on top of the 6,500 households already visited in the past few days.

Towngas said it was encouraging customers to upgrade their old-style water heaters to fan-assisted types with the offer of a 40 per cent discount as an incentive.

Kan Ho-kin, 13, and Wong Shue-kwung, 26, were found dead at Shekkipmei Estate on Sunday with the gas heater on and all windows in the flat closed.
