THERE was plenty to like about the way Fat City went about his business last start when opening his winning account in Hongkong. Coming clear off the field along with Va Vite, the pair had a tussle to the line, but Fat City - possibly helped by the slight ease in the track - went the stronger and held sway by half-a-length. That win was over a mile and only the sixth start for the horse, trained by David Hill. Hill steps him up this afternoon to 1,800 metres, which is unchartered territory - but Hill looks to have prepared this smart youngster solidly to see out the extra 200 metres. Va Vite re-opposes him again this afternoon and is four pounds better for the defeat over the Sha Tin mile, but was disappointing at his last start over 1,800 metres when finishing a long way behind the field at Happy Valley.
