Contraceptive pills blamed yesterday for the deaths of six women abroad are being sold over the counter in Hong Kong.
Four brands of pills available in chemists here are the target of an outcry in New Zealand following the deaths of six users there from blood clots.
The women died after taking contraceptives with the brand names Mercilon, Marvelon, Femodene and Minulet.
The Department of Health last night confirmed the four drugs were available here and a South China Morning Post reporter was able to buy all but Femodene without prescription.
Femodene is understood to be available here but could be sold under a different brand.
In Britain, the Committee on the Safety of Medicines has warned doctors to have patients switch to other brands.
