A commuter escaped serious injury when he fainted and fell into the path of a train at Prince Edward MTR station yesterday.
Wong Kai-yan, 28, a City Telecom customer services officer, suffered a dizzy spell and fell on to the track while waiting for a Yau Ma Tei-bound train on the Kwun Tong line to take him to his Heng Fa Chuen home at about 9.30am.
He had felt unwell on his way to work in New Century Plaza in Mongkok after a number of days' sick leave for flu. He decided to switch trains and go home.
'I felt dizzy, lost my balance and fell into the path of a train. I hurt my legs and couldn't get up,' he told police. 'I climbed into the pit between the tracks and just lay flat when the train came.' The train operator saw him and braked but the carriages still ran over him.
'When the train stopped, I scrambled towards the light and climbed up into the gap between two compartments and then back on to the platform,' he said from Kwong Wah Hospital.
The accident happened at the same station where a suicidal man, recently released from prison, threw himself into the path of a train on Monday. His body then bounced back and hit two other commuters standing on the platform, on a different level from yesterday's incident. One of the commuters was injured.
