Container truck drivers plan to jam roads leading to the Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal on Monday to protest against the terminal's refusal to suspend a $50 levy.
Truck associations, which have jointly applied for a police permit to carry out the action between noon and 2pm, allege the terminal reneged on its promise to freeze the registration and parking fees from last Friday.
'The association members plan to go ahead with their protest drive with or without the police permit,' a source said.
Police said that they were confident of reaching a consensus with the demonstrators regarding the protest.
An Economic Services Bureau spokesman said the terminal was prepared to discuss the issue with the drivers.
Terminal spokesman John Wan said his company had never agreed to suspend the charges.
