SIX teenagers woke up to years behind bars today after a judge jailed them for life for the 'horrific, brutal and vicious' torture and murder of a schoolboy.
Mr Justice Michael Wong Kin-chow urged parents, authorities and the Government to curb an undercurrent of youth violence which led to the killing of Luk Chi-wai, 15.
Of the 13 teenagers found guilty over the events leading to Chi-wai's murder, six were jailed for life yesterday in a courtroom packed with weeping families and friends.
Two others were remanded for training centre reports, while five went free at the Court of First Instance. A key prosecution witness was jailed for seven years after admitting manslaughter.
Mr Justice Wong made an impassioned plea for society to learn from the tragedy.
'This is a very tragic case, tragic that an innocent young boy lost his life and tragic that a number of young men are going to lose their liberty for a long, long time,' he said.
