Martinair has started a non-stop cargo service from Seattle to Shannon, Ireland, which has boosted its capacity to North America by 68 per cent.
The service, using a Boeing 747 freighter, departs from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport each Saturday, arriving at Shannon the following day before moving on to Amsterdam.
Martinair also provides a road feeder and trucking service throughout Britain and Europe via Martinair Cargo sales.
'We know this new route will be a popular one for Martinair's West Coast cargo operation,' Martinair's North American cargo sales manager Arthur Brown said.
The new service would be particularly useful for clients shipping hi-tech components to Britain and Europe, he said. Martinair's combined air and road-feeder operation to more than 200 cargo destinations worldwide made it a most cost-effective service for clients.
Martinair provides cargo and passenger services worldwide via its hub at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. Its cargo service to Amsterdam and beyond operates from more than 30 gateways in the the United States, including Miami, Atlanta, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
