Four carriers have filed a space-charter and sailing agreement with the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) to provide weekly, fixed-day container services between the US east coast and west coast of South America. Compania Sudamericana de Vapores (CSAV), Compania Chilena de Navegacion Interoceanica (CCNI), Crowley American Transport and APL plan to begin the service in March. 'This vessel-sharing partnership will allow each carrier to further rationalise costs and improve the use of assets, while providing timely, reliable service for customers in the trade,' the lines said. The carriers will use six 1,700 teu (20 ft equivalent units) vessels. Presently, the carriers provide individual services under separate licensing agreements.
