After a well-deserved holiday, newlywed windsurfers Lee Lai-shan and Sam Wong Tak-sum will return to the battlefield when they head to New Zealand on Thursday for the Sail Auckland regatta. San San and Wong, who captured a gold and a silver at the Bangkok Asian Games in December, tied the knot in Las Vegas, Nevada, last week and returned to the SAR yesterday. Olympic champion San San said they could not have afforded such a break in the past because of their hectic training and competition schedule. The couple will not treat the Sail Auckland regatta as anything more than a training exercise as they have not taken to their boards for six weeks. 'I don't expect to get good results there as I am not in my normal form,' San San said. They resume training in Stanley today. It is still uncertain whether San San will defend her Olympic title in Sydney next year but she will make a decision at the end of the year when she and Wong should complete their sports management degree at the University of Canberra. While their competition schedule for a series of European regattas between April and July needs to be dovetailed with their studies, they have confirmed that they will race in March's Asian Championships in Japan, September's Pre-Olympic regatta in Sydney and November's World Championships in New Caledonia. On their return from Auckland, the couple will have to organise busily for their wedding banquet to be held in late March, days after they finish the Asian Championships.
