A lone nine-year-old boy in a swarm of strangers yesterday symbolised the yearning of thousands of children waiting to rejoin their families. Mak Ho-leung spent the day at the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau, where hundreds of families were seeking permission for children to live with their parents in Hong Kong. He had been left there by the relatives he lives with in Guangzhou. Both his parents live in the SAR. Ho-leung, bored with his long wait but excited at the thought of moving, amused himself by jumping up and down the stairs, climbing on chairs and peering out of the windows. 'I really want to go to Hong Kong,' he said. 'I love Hong Kong, and I can't wait to watch television there.'
