A Social Welfare Department accountant accused of stealing bank documents to obtain money intended for clients appeared in court yesterday. Leung Chi-kin, 43, faces 11 charges of stealing documents said to have enabled him to obtain a total of $55,098 and a further charge of stealing 57 bank passbooks. The alleged thefts occurred between April 2, 1996, and January 16 last year. Eastern Magistrate Garry Tallentire adjourned the case to March 2. No plea was taken. He extended Leung's $3,000 bail and ordered the surrender of his travel documents.
