Three men and three women appeared in court yesterday charged with conspiring to defraud eight banks out of $45 million.
Kwan Kwok-tai, 38; sisters Joyce Kwan Shuk-ching, 34, and Tracy Kwan Shuk-ching, 33; Chan Wo-on, 34; Leung Suk-mei, 39; and Lung Che-keung, 43, are accused of conspiring - with others not charged - eight times between May 1, 1996, and July 31, 1997, to defraud the banks.
No pleas were taken in Eastern Court.
Kwan Kwok-tai was released on $450,000 bail, while Joyce and Tracy Kwan were released on $250,000 bail. Chan and Leung were freed on $150,000 bail and Lung on $100,000 bail.
All six were required to provide a third-party surety of $300,000 and to report weekly to a police station.
Magistrate Garry Tallentire adjourned the case to March 3 for committal.
