I refer to 'Escalator smoking ban query' (South China Morning Post, January 30). The Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance does not include outdoor escalators. The existing designated no-smoking areas specified in the ordinance are mainly those indoor areas open to the public. We are grateful for your reader's comments on this matter and will certainly bear them in mind. Public lifts are no-smoking areas - no one should smoke or carry a lighted cigarette inside.
