The Chief Executive has agreed to subject himself to some anti-graft rules that apply only to government officers and other public servants.
Tung Chee-hwa's approval requires a review of at least eight provisions of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance that do not apply to him.
Director of Administration Carrie Yau Tsang Ka-lai told Legco's constitutional affairs panel yesterday that Mr Tung wanted to be treated the same as anyone in public office.
At present the Chief Executive is neither a 'government officer' nor a 'public servant' under the ordinance and hence not subject to those sections of the ordinance that apply to the two categories.
The provisions in question range from soliciting or accepting an advantage to possession of unexplained property, and bribery.
However, Mrs Yau said the Government did not see any immediate need to amend the ordinance.
