Eye-check warning

Wearers of glasses and contact lenses were reminded to check the qualifications of optometrists yesterday as not all of them have the same rights to practise.

Consumer Council spokesman Dr Michael Tsui said there were four classes of optometrists, with restrictions on diagnostic drugs they could use and items they could prescribe.

Two complaints had been made about incorrect prescriptions this year. Action had been taken against both optometrists.
