Beijing splits shipbuilder

BEIJING plans to split its giant China State Shipbuilding Corp into two companies to boost innovation by its struggling shipbuilders. The mainland's industry is losing ship orders in part because of inferior technology, the China Daily said. The breakup is part of a decade-old effort to compete in shipbuilding with Japan and South Korea, whose recent currency declines have made their more advanced products even more attractive to ship buyers.
