AT the entrance of Fanling Village, near the Regional Council Swimming Pool and next to Fanling Store, 643-646 Fanling Village, there is a sloping lamp post. This street light has a white neon light, often found in rural areas, and has the number 26 marked on it. It has been there for many years and part of it near the cement foundation, is badly damaged by rust. Because the rusting is so bad, the metal has rotted away and you can see inside it. Perhaps because of this, the post has began to bend over and is now slanting at an angle of around 30 degrees. As the lamp post is located at the main road leading to Fanling Village, it poses a danger to the many villagers who live here, to passing vehicles and to children playing around this area. We all know that the typhoon season is approaching, so there is an urgent need for this sloping lamp post to be replaced. If this is not done, I believe that lives could be put at risk. A tragedy can and must be averted. PANG CHI-HUNG Fanling
