A new skills centre will provide comprehensive training for the disabled. Speaking at the opening cer emony of the Pok Fu Lam Skills Centre, Vocational Training Council (VTC) chairman Yeung Kai-yin said the VTC's three skills centres - in Pok Fu Lam, Tuen Mun and Kwun Tong - provided 773 places for dis abled persons, some of whom had been given accommoda tion. It was expected that the number of places would be in creased to 833 by the end of 2001, Mr Yeung said. Despite the gloomy econom ic outlook, he said 70 per cent of graduates from the VTC skills centres had found jobs. The Pok Fu Lam Skills Cen tre will admit 240 handicapped people aged 15 or above annu ally. The 10-storey centre with a floor area of 27,000 square feet was built at a cost of about $78 million, with another $12 mil lion being allocated for its up- to-date facilities. At the ceremony, employers who hired skills centre gradu ates received certificates.
