Liverpool are trying to clear Jamie Carragher's name after his red card at Charlton last Saturday. The defender was dismissed following a clash with Swedish striker Martin Pringle during Liverpool's 1-0 defeat.
Anfield boss Gerard Houllier, who was highly critical of referee Mike Reed's handling of the game, decided to appeal to the FA after viewing the match video.
A Liverpool spokesman said: 'After looking at the video, we feel that the red card was unwarranted.' Carragher was adjudged to have hit Pringle with his arm but Liverpool claim it was unintentional.
Liverpool keeper Brad Friedel is reported to be attracting interest from Portuguese giants Benfica, managed by former Anfield favourite Graeme Souness. The American has lost his place to David James this season and Souness is believed to have had talks with the player's representatives.

Pedros missed the vital shootout penalty in France's semi-final defeat by the Czech Republic at Euro 96. He did not feature in France's World Cup-winning squad.
Former Liverpool keeper Bruce Grobbelaar has returned to South Africa to coach Premier League club Seven Stars after obtaining a work permit. Grobbelaar had to quit South Africa for Zimbabwe last month after just two matches in charge of the struggling Stars following a government clampdown on coaches and players without permits.
