Switch off for refuelling

I write with some concern over practices adopted at local fuel stations, which allow mini-bus and truck drivers to keep engines running while the vehicles are being refuelled.

My regular run from Central to Pokfulam on a green mini-bus in the evening almost always results in a refuelling stop and the engine is kept on. Several times I have told the drivers to shut off their engine and, while some oblige, others become annoyed.

It amazes me that fuel station owners allow vehicles to be refuelled without making drivers shut off their engines.

Come the day one engine backfires, there will be a very serious accident.

Isn't there some law against this? My view is that all station owners should insist engines are switched off, or refuse to refuel vehicles.

A serious accident is waiting to happen and it is not only the people in the mini-buses who would die. Considering the underground tanks at these stations, others within a large radius would also be killed.
