Hong Kong's only Olympic champion, windsurfer Lee Lai- shan, has appealed to the Government not to neglect the welfare of athletes who have not won any medals. 'Those who didn't win any medals should not be ignored. Hong Kong should recognise the contribution of all athletes and give everyone an opportunity,' she said. Lee said most athletes had a weak academic background and their training programme was not recognised in their search for jobs after they retired from sport. She said there was a need for flexible study schedules, allowing young athletes the freedom to hone their skills without neglecting their education.
