Lai Fook-chor was bemused and angry yesterday after seeing his plans for a family holiday in tatters. 'I feel cheated,' he said. 'We are very upset. The whole family only has a few days' holiday for the whole year and the whole plan has now been disrupted.' Mr Lai paid $19,000 for a five-day Singapore and Malaysia tour, and should have left on Saturday. But he had received no information from Kwan's Travel Services since paying the money early this month. It was only when he rang the travel agent last Thursday that he suspected there was a problem. He was told the tour was cancelled because there were no air tickets. 'But they told me no money would be refunded until seven days later,' Mr Lai said. He took his family to a Gold Coast hotel for the Lunar New Year to compensate for them missing out on the tour. Mr Lai went to the travel company's headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday hoping to find out more, but all he found was a closed door. He knows the Travel Industry Council will cover 90 per cent of the money he paid but said it was small return for the inconvenience and disappointment caused by the closure of the travel company.
