An imaginative production using simple props such as sticks and cloth will provide the climax to the 1998-99 drama season next month. The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre will stage a Cantonese version of Peer Gynt at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre from March 5 to 14. Written by Henrik Ibsen, the play will be directed by Michael Bogdanov, who will combine Oriental and Western aesthetics in portraying the protagonist's journey through life. In 1971, Bogdanov used 'stick-and-cloth techniques' to direct a children's play in Britain, using actors' body language to great effect. He believes the attractiveness of a drama is its ability to spark the audience's imagination. Tickets, at $80, $120 and $160, are now available at Urbtix. There are 50 per cent discounts for senior citizens, the disabled and full-time students. For more information, call 2853-2634; booking hotline: 2734-9009.
