A CORONER yesterday reopened an inquest into the deaths of two engineers in an explosion at the Castle Peak power plant last year.
A newly-empanelled jury heard that Mr Wong Kwong-yu, 38, and Mr Yip Ka-pui, 41, died in the explosion on August 28.
Dr Richard Jack, scientific services officer with China Light and Power Company Ltd, which owns the plant, gave a synopsis of the plant's operation and how the explosion occurred with the aid of a slide presentation.
He said a board of inquiry set up after the incident concluded that the explosion was caused by a mixture of air and hydrogen in two high pressure hydrogen storage receivers.
Assistant charge engineer with the company, Mr Ben Chau, said there were 300 valves in the hydrogen plant.
He said while he was on duty on August 26, he discovered that one valve, which should have been closed, had been left open.
