Film makers warned that porn ban stays
CHINA has no plan to introduce Western-style film classification and relax censorship on the mainland, according to a broadcasting official.
The official was quoted by the Hongkong China News Agency in a Beijing despatch as saying that China would still ban the production of pornographic films and others that have ''unhealthy contents'' and ''horrific scenes''.
The officials said: ''Such films are not only unsuitable for children. Adults should also stay away.
''It is still not appropriate to introduce the film classification scheme into China in the meantime.'' The official was responding to recent speculation that China would follow the suit of Western countries to classify films into three categories in accordance with ''the degree of nudity''.
Under the present system dating back to the late 1980s, some films, either local or imported, could be classified as ''not suitable for children''. They will be banned from cinemas.
The total number of such films is less than 10 every year, including the award-winning Judou.
