Standard Chartered Bank intends to begin offering Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) products. 'The bank has over 20 years experience as a provident fund services provider in Hong Kong and already has significant experience in the Occupational Retirement Schemes market,' the head of consumer banking, Peter Wong, said. The bank said market research had been conducted 'to find out exactly what the employers and employees need from the plan'. Robert Fok, senior manager of provident fund services, said: 'In our preliminary research, 85 per cent of the employers surveyed thought that it was important that the MPF provider is independent of the administrator and trustee if their performance is not up to par.' He said it would appoint an independent administrator and trustee to help the bank manage the overall plan.
